                         Welcome to the Happy Motivator

Writing is a fun way to express yourself.  You can discuss your latest holiday with travel writing or you can critique the latest movie you watched in a movie review.  For something you think is newsworthy you could write a press release and get it in the newspaper or maybe you are really passionate about a subject and would prefer to write a more in depth feature article.

A feature article is a little like a history essay. It is not hard news which means all the information must be told straight away because they are in a hurry. The feature article is longer, it has a beginning(introduction), a middle and an end (conclusion). The size can vary from a few hundred words to a few thousand words. An in depth magazine feature is in the region of about 5000 words.  When I first started writing feature articles I loved doing them as it was almost exactly how I would do a speech on my school debating team. I loved doing the reseach and then putting my views across to the reader.   A feature article is nothing like a press release as now you are not restricted in getting the most important information across to the reader straight away.

A feature article gets the reader to think.  It is up to the writer of a feature article to use his or her skill as a writer to grab the reader and make them read on taking in the information which is a joy to read. A feature article can be informative and yet entertaining and colourful. I find Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes particularly entertaining and a delight to watch and read.  In the UK or where ever there is a war going on John Simpson is also particularly entertaining in his use of the English language. Jeremy Clarkson in the UK writes a column for the Sunday Times and he clearly loves to write

On a more serious side you need to ask yourself why you are writing the article and what you aim to do.  Do you want to inform the reader, create emotion, persuade them or talk about your observations? Good luck and who knows your feature may even get news story of the year.
There are books a million but the fun is in writing your own book and having people tell you they enjoyed it.

If a writer is passionate about a subject you can normally see it in their writing and you get to enjoy reading the article.  Humour is a great way of capturing your reader and getting them to read more because they are being entertained can be a lot of fun. I get a lot of pleasure in reading cleverly written articles.

There are few things more rewarding  than seeing your own words in print for the first time.  Whether you are
writing about the weekend sporting event, the latest fashion trends, a great movie or even a disastrous one, words  are a means of creating a picture in people's heads who weren't there to experience it.

If you look a little further down the page you can see some tips on how to write a press release and also write a feature article. I love watching movies.  Have you seen a good one recently?  If you have or maybe you have not - write about it.   Use your view of what you thought about the film to your advantage and write a movie review.  You could even start your own online blog like me.
